During my college days, there used to be this little snack bar near Stella Maris college where we used to hang out. The menu was fairly simple. Hot Coffee, Cold Coffee, Masala Tea and Hot Chocolate. That’s it. Those were the days when the espressos and the lattes were slowly showing up in cafes in India and cold coffee shake was still the king. Cold coffee is something I have never said no to. I am more of a latte person now but I do not remember ordering anything but cold coffee then. Chennai is known for its hot weather and a cold beverage was something we craved for all the time. We always used to sulk about the humidity and the weather and our friends used to joke saying even Chennai has 4 seasons – Warm, Hot, hotter and hottest. Its kind of true. The humidity makes it even miserable. Even with all the madness, there is something so mesmerizing about that city.
I like to use freshly brewed strong coffee for this recipe. If you have a coffee machine, make a fresh brew of coffee and cool it in the refrigerator. Even coffee capsules work equally good. Take a blender and add in cold milk, strong coffee and two scoops of vanilla ice-cream. I have not added any sugar in this recipe as the ice-cream itself is sweet. If you want a sweeter shake, add in few tablespoon of sweetened condensed milk.
Blend the ingredients for 10-15 seconds until frothy. Immediately pour in serving cups.
Top it off with a scoop of vanilla ice-cream and serve immediately.

- 100ml strong coffee
- 200ml milk
- 4 scoops vanilla ice cream
- Blend in the coffee, milk and two scoops of ice cream until frothy.
- Pour in cups and top it off with a scoop of ice cream.
